Introduction
During the 1970s and early 1980s I travelled to many places on the British Rail network photographing the changing scene in mainly monochrome. My quest was to capture as many aspects of the railway environment as I could. In many cases I made the trains a backdrop to the scene or they do not even appear. I started taking the photographs in 1972 using a Russian Fed camera, which was a 14th birthday present. This was followed by a Zorki 4, then a Pentax SP1000. I used mainly Ilford's FP4 and HP5, plus Kodak Tri-X, which were ideal for the often challenging scenes I photographed. I hope you enjoy dipping into them.
